The first Wednesday of March is Spread the Word to End the Word awareness day! It is a day for society to stop and think about its use of the R-word and rally people around the world to pledge respect toward all individuals, making the world a more accepting and inclusive place for all people, especially those with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
On March 7th at 7 pm in the Bultman Student Center, there will be an ice cream social panel. Individuals with intellectual disabilities will speak about their experience with the R-word and how it has affected them. There will be a chance to ask question and an ice cream sundae bar too! There is an opportunity to take the pledge to stop the use of the R-word at the panel and also in the Kletz market and outside Phelps dining hall. We hope you see you on Wednesday! Check out https://www.r-word.org to learn more about the R-word campaign Our Valentine's Day Party is tomorrow, Monday, February 19 at 7 PM in Mass Aud. Come enjoy cookie decorating, games, crafts, and hanging out with some super cool people!

Not sure what CEC is? We are a student-run chapter of the Council for Exceptional Children. We provide fellowship to individuals with special needs in our local community. We are connected with many group homes for adults with special needs and the Ready for Life Academy on Hope's campus. CEC is open to all Hope students, and our members come from many different disciplines. We have biweekly meetings and have a wide range of events that include our local group homes and Ready for Life students. There are also mentorship opportunities with a local organization who help adults with special needs. Sign up for our email list to get the latest updates for the dates of our upcoming meetings and event details and dates. Feel free to come to one of our meetings and see what CEC is all about; we always welcome students of all majors! For the Spring 2018 semester we are starting things off with a fresh new website! We hope to provide you with easy access to organization updates, events, and other groups in the community who share our heart for individuals with special needs. Please contact us at [email protected] with any questions or suggestions you have to make the site better. Thank you for your support! |
